ALEX MARQUEZ SAYS HE BELIEVES IN KTM’S MOTOGP PROJECT AFTER SWITCH

At ServusTV’s “Sport und Talk aus dem Hangar-7,” MotoGP riders Alex Marquez and Brad Binder joined the show alongside motorsport guests Hans-Joachim Stuck and Patrick Friesacher, with KTM racing boss Pit Beirer also in attendance. The focus quickly turned to Marquez’s next step in MotoGP and what it means for his career.

Marquez, currently riding for Gresini Ducati, explained that his move to KTM was effectively decided early in talks with Beirer. “That was relatively clear when I had the first conversation with Pit,” he said. “They were very determined that they wanted me. It was a very good moment in my career to be back in a factory team.”

He also underlined his belief in KTM’s direction in the premier class. “They want the title and I believe in the project,” Marquez said. He added that the package going forward is not just incremental, pointing to major changes ahead: “There will be new bikes in 2027, a new concept and new people. I will give everything to help with that.”

Asked about the ongoing championship fight, Marquez noted that attention is often drawn to the headline names, but insisted the picture is broader. “Everyone talks about Jorge Martin and Marc, but also Pedro has already scored many points,” he said. “He’s really good in the race and he plays the game really well.”

The conversation also revisited Marquez’s difficult period after a serious crash in Barcelona in mid-May, which involved him in a heavy rear-end incident. He said he is still recovering: “I’m still recovering from it; it was really not easy.” He described the timing as especially tough because he had been coming off a strong Jerez result. “It happened at a critical moment—I had won before, everything was super positive.”

Marquez said his return has been gradual, with fewer mistakes race by race. “Later I came back and could then perform a little better every day,” he explained. “I made fewer errors in every race. On Sunday, for the first time again, I was on the podium after the crash—that was really important for me.” He added that he hopes to keep learning and reach a win this season: “I hope that in this season I can get at least one victory. I want to try to keep learning.”
