ALEX MARQUEZ WARNS NO ONE CAN CONTROL THE UNCERTAINTY OVER QATAR

Alex Marquez arrived at Phillip Island facing two challenges: changeable weather and a shoulder injury that continues to trouble him. He also voiced concern about whether MotoGP’s Qatar race can safely go ahead amid instability in the region.
The Gresini Ducati rider expects Friday’s conditions in Australia to be favourable, but is wary of making predictions for the rest of the weekend. “On this island, everything can change from one day to the next,” he said, noting that Saturday and especially Sunday could bring more difficult weather. His approach is to assess conditions one session at a time and adapt as needed, a familiar necessity at Phillip Island.
Marquez said the break since the Indonesian Grand Prix had allowed him to recover reasonably well. However, the run of three consecutive race weekends ahead will push him physically. He said the cause of his shoulder problems is understood, and that he is working with doctors to assess the effects of the plate and bursitis. There are ways to address the issues, he explained, but recovery will take time.
His sharper comments concerned Qatar, where the race’s status remains uncertain. Marquez said the situation is changing daily and appears to be worsening, despite assurances from championship officials. “They tell us everything is under control, but I don’t think anyone can control a situation this complex,” he said. “A lot can change from one day to the next.”
Marquez does not believe an immediate decision is necessary, but said organisers must assess developments realistically in the coming days. He acknowledged the substantial financial stakes, adding that Dorna wants to do everything possible to hold the event. Still, he stressed that safety considerations must extend beyond the riders. “They also have to look after the health of everyone, because a lot of people will be travelling there,” he said.
