BREMBO UNVEILS LIGHTER, STIFFER BRAKE CALIPER FOR MOTOGP’S 2027 BIKES

3 Nov 2026·

MotoGP’s 2027 technical reset will bring more than smaller engines and revised aerodynamics: the championship’s new 850cc bikes will also use updated Brembo brake calipers. Brembo is presenting its GP4 model at EICMA 2026 in Milan, describing it as a design developed to meet the needs of teams and riders under the incoming regulations.

The new rules will reduce engine capacity from 1,000cc to 850cc, remove ride-height devices and limit aerodynamic performance. Pirelli will also replace Michelin as MotoGP’s tyre supplier. Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, Honda and Yamaha have already been testing their next-generation machines, and the GP4 is another component prepared for the changeover.

Brembo says each caliper is 75 grams lighter than the current version, saving 150 grams across the motorcycle, while increasing stiffness by about five per cent. The company says it redesigned the caliper body through a broad optimisation process, with weight, performance and heat management in mind.

Its geometry, openings and machined features are intended to improve overall braking-system efficiency without requiring dedicated cooling solutions. Holes built into the caliper serve two purposes, Brembo says: reducing mass and helping ventilation. The revised appearance includes a central structure likened to a backbone, alongside diagonal lines and side openings.

Despite the redesign, the GP4 retains the existing hydraulic architecture and uses the same brake pads and discs. It is fully interchangeable in terms of mounting, while its material and surface finish remain unchanged.

Brembo said the new caliper reflects the ongoing transfer of expertise between research, development and racing, which it says continues to advance its braking technology.
