DOVIZIOSO SAYS RAZGATLIOGLU HAD OTHER INJURIES BEFORE SHOULDER DISLOCATION
27 Oct 2026·

Toprak Razgatlioglu is set to miss the remainder of his rookie MotoGP season after deciding, with Pramac, to undergo surgery on his right shoulder. Yamaha test rider Andrea Dovizioso says the Turkish rider was already dealing with other physical problems before a highside at Mandalika made the shoulder injury worse.
Razgatlioglu dislocated his shoulder in the final practice session for the Indonesian Grand Prix earlier this month. He reset the joint himself and went on to qualify and race in the Sprint, but the pain forced him to retire from Sunday’s Grand Prix. Surgery was scheduled for October 26 in Milan. The aim is to recover fully for 2027, when MotoGP introduces 850cc bikes and Pirelli tyres. He will also miss the post-season Valencia test, with Augusto Fernandez taking his place at Pramac in the meantime.
“ As far as I know, he’d already been having a few minor problems and the situation with his shoulder worsened with the fall,” Dovizioso said on his YouTube channel. “He was right to seek treatment to try and get back into shape physically and be ready for next year’s new regulations.”
The injury ends a difficult first campaign for the three-time WorldSBK champion. Razgatlioglu has scored 18 points and has yet to finish a Grand Prix in the top 10. His best result on the Yamaha M1 was 11th in Hungary, in round eight. He scored in four of the five Grands Prix from rounds eight to 12, but later crashed out in Aragon and Indonesia, finished 20th in Austria and 17th in Japan, and failed to score in four of what will be his final five races of the season.
His results have come amid the challenge of adapting to Michelin tyres and Yamaha’s V4 YZR-M1. Dovizioso’s account of earlier physical issues adds another factor to the difficulties Razgatlioglu faced before his Mandalika crash.
His absence also settles the 2026 Rookie of the Year contest: LCR Honda’s Diogo Moreira, the only other rookie on the grid, takes the award. Moreira has 76 points and has moved ahead of Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo to 14th in the standings, with four rounds remaining.
