HODGSON SAYS MILLER AND BINDER CAN BRIGHTEN WORLD SUPERBIKE
23 Oct 2026·

Neil Hodgson believes the arrival of Jack Miller and Brad Binder will give WorldSBK a much-needed lift in 2027, after a season he described as difficult to watch.
The former World Superbike champion discussed the moves during TNT Sports’ coverage of first practice at the Australian Grand Prix. Miller, riding at his home event, was third fastest behind Marc Marquez and Raul Fernandez. Hodgson also suggested the Australian could contend for victory at Phillip Island if the race is wet. “There’s an absolute possibility there will be a full wet race, and Jack Miller will be at the sharp end,” he said, adding: “It’ll be win or crash for Jack. He’s not shy, is he?”
Miller is set to join WorldSBK with Yamaha, while Binder will move to BMW. Franco Morbidelli is also heading to the production-based championship, as several current MotoGP riders switch categories for 2027. Hodgson called Miller’s departure a loss for the premier-class paddock, but said WorldSBK would benefit from the personalities and talent arriving. “MotoGP’s loss is World Superbike’s gain,” he said. “World Superbike has been dull as dishwater this year; it’s been a hard watch. To get characters like Jack and Brad Binder is a big win. They need that.”
The championship’s 2026 season was dominated by Ducati and Nicolo Bulega. The Italian won all 32 races on the calendar to secure his first WorldSBK title, then became one of the riders set to move to MotoGP in 2027. Bulega is expected to race for VR46 Racing in his first full season in the premier class.
Ducati’s sweep of every WorldSBK race has raised questions about the competitive balance, and Hodgson expects changes to the regulations. “I think they are going to do something with the rules; that Ducati is a bit incredible,” he said. Even with Bulega moving on, Ducati’s Panigale V4R could remain a formidable obstacle for Miller and the other incoming riders next season.
