JORGE MARTIN RECEIVES IV DRIP AFTER GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTION

14 Oct 2026·

MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin is recovering from a gastrointestinal infection during the series’ brief break after the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Aprilia rider stayed in Indonesia with his girlfriend, Maria, rather than returning to Europe before the next race in Australia. Avoiding another bout of jet lag was part of the reason for the extended stay, which he has also used for rest and training.

Martin raised concern on Wednesday by posting a photo of himself receiving an infusion, accompanied by the brief message: “Problems.” Aprilia confirmed that he had caught a stomach bug. A doctor visited his private apartment on Wednesday evening and gave him a vitamin infusion.

Despite being ill, the 2024 world champion has continued to train almost daily, including sessions on his road bike and in the gym. Aprilia is not looking to significantly restrict his activity. The team can draw on Martin’s experience of close title battles: during the overseas rounds in 2024, he laid the foundations for his championship victory in his contest with Pecco Bagnaia.

The Australian Grand Prix begins a demanding run of three consecutive race weekends, followed by Malaysia and Qatar. Martin’s decision to remain in Asia means he can prepare for the trip to Australia without first travelling back to Europe.
