MARC MARQUEZ NAMED SPAIN’S 2025 SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

18 Oct 2026·

Marc Marquez has been named Spain’s Sportsman of the Year for 2025, receiving the honour almost a year after securing his ninth world championship and seventh in MotoGP. Spain’s High Council for Sport announced the award.

Riding a Ducati Desmosedici, Marquez dominated the 2025 season, recording 11 Grand Prix victories and winning 14 sprint races. He clinched the title early at the Japanese Grand Prix. The award also recognises a remarkable return from injury: a crash at Jerez in 2020 left him with a broken right upper arm, followed by multiple operations and years of struggle. Honda’s loss of competitiveness added to the difficulties. Marquez moved to Gresini Ducati in 2024, winning three Grands Prix before joining the factory Ducati team and taking the championship the following year.

The recognition is not new for the Spaniard. He also won the award in 2014, after claiming his second MotoGP title. Other motorcycle racers honoured as Spain’s top sportsman include Jorge “Aspar” Martinez in 1987 and Jorge Lorenzo in 2010.

Marquez is again pursuing the championship this season. With five race weekends remaining, he sits second in the standings, two points behind leader Jorge Martin, who rides for Aprilia.
