RAZGATLIOGLU BEGINS SHOULDER RECOVERY AFTER EARLY SEASON EXIT
28 Oct 2026·

Toprak Razgatlioglu has begun training after shoulder surgery, but says ending his rookie MotoGP season early has been a difficult experience. The three-time WorldSBK champion was injured in a practice crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix in early October. At Mandalika, he lost the front at Turn 13, ran onto the dirty part of the track and high-sided. Although he qualified, he withdrew from the race and later decided not to compete again this season.
Now back in Europe and recovering from surgery, Razgatlioglu shared his first update in an Instagram post. “Sometimes unexpected things can happen,” he wrote, describing the early end to his season as a first in his racing career. Watching races on television, he added, has felt “very strange.” He conceded he is going through “a difficult time.”
The Yamaha rider said the operation was intended to help him return stronger and that he had already resumed training. “I hope we’ll be back on the motorcycle as soon as possible,” he said, while thanking Yamaha, his team and Dr Minola. He also expressed gratitude to supporters who had sent good wishes and stayed with him through the setback.
Razgatlioglu missed the Australian Grand Prix and will also be absent from the remaining rounds. That includes the Valencia test on 1 December, the first full test using bikes built to the 2027 regulations. Augusto Fernandez took his place at Pramac Yamaha for the Australian Grand Prix, though that event was ultimately cancelled. Yamaha’s test rider is set to remain with the team for the rest of the season as Razgatlioglu continues his recovery. Fernandez had described the switch from the 850cc machine he had been testing to the 1,000cc bike used at Phillip Island as feeling like moving between manufacturers.
