ROSER ALENTA AND PEDRO ACOSTA SHARE ARAGON PADDOCK MOMENT AFTER MARQUEZ BATTLE

Pedro Acosta’s Aragon Grand Prix win came after a race-long test of pace and pressure against Marc Marquez, with the Spaniard ultimately making the Ducati work harder than expected. Marquez got off to a difficult start when he forgot to activate his rear ride-height device, leaving him behind the two factory Aprilias. He fought back quickly, moving into the lead by lap six as Acosta followed him past Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi.

From there, Acosta stayed close enough to apply sustained pressure, but he never quite got close enough to launch a decisive move. As the laps went on, the challenge faded, and Marquez was able to manage the gap to the point where Acosta crossed the line 1.7 seconds behind. The result underlined how competitive Acosta has been in 2026: despite riding the third-fastest bike, he has climbed to sixth in the standings and has outscored Raul Fernandez, Francesco Bagnaia, and Alex Marquez.

After the race, the paddock moment that stood out came when Acosta shared a playful exchange with Roser Alenta, Marquez’s mother, captured by DAZN TV cameras. As they embraced, Alenta said, “What a race!” before turning the conversation toward the future. “You b—! What a son of a b—! What about next year?” Acosta, who said he is wary of “talking too much” before his Ducati confrontation with Marquez, responded simply: “We’ll see.”

Marquez himself also offered high praise for Acosta following the weekend. Speaking to outlets including El Periodico, he recalled seeing Acosta’s talent early: “I said it from the moment I saw him win in Moto3: I think he’s a fantastic rider and I’m very glad Ducati didn’t let him get away.” He added that a direct fight could be coming: “Will I have a fight with him? That moment might come, yes, because there are generational changes that can’t be stopped.”

With Acosta continuing to rack up podiums—four so far, with only Bezzecchi (eight) and Martin (six) ahead—Marquez’s teammate situation at Ducati has also shifted. Since becoming teammates in 2025, Marquez has not faced sustained threat from Bagnaia, and the gap between them has grown to 94 points after Bagnaia’s DNF on Sunday. That context sets up Acosta as the more significant looming challenge for Marquez, especially given how often he’s been framed as the next rider in line after the current generation.
