SENNA AGIUS CONFIRMED FOR 2027 MOTOGP MOVE WITH KTM TECH3

Tech3 has confirmed Senna Agius will debut in MotoGP in 2027 with KTM, partnering Luca Marini in an all-new line-up. Motorsport.com adds that the signing was widely expected and was a personal call by new Tech3 team boss Guenther Steiner, who is also the managing director and former Haas F1 team principal. The move is also framed as necessary for the championship following Jack Miller’s switch to WorldSBK.
Agius’ arrival comes as Tech3 prepares for the start of MotoGP’s new 850cc/Pirelli era, with the Australian set to join the grid alongside Marini. Steiner said Agius’ determination and work ethic “really stood out to us” when the team was putting together its 2027 plans. “We believe Senna has the qualities to make a very strong step into MotoGP,” Steiner said, adding that Agius has shown “impressive speed and maturity” in Moto2, but that what impressed Tech3 most was his drive to keep improving and his attitude toward the work needed to succeed.
The 20-year-old has already built a strong record on Pirelli tyres in the intermediate class. After a podium during his rookie Moto2 season with Intact GP, he claimed two grand prix wins in 2025 and has matched that tally so far in 2026. His progress has also been reflected in the standings, moving from 18th in 2024 to tenth in 2025 and currently fourth in 2026.
Steiner also highlighted Agius’ unusual path into grand prix racing. Unlike most of his rivals, Agius skipped Moto3 and entered the paddock directly in Moto2 after dominating the 2023 European Moto2 championship.
Tech3’s leadership believes the timing and the pairing make sense as it looks toward a new chapter for the team. Steiner said, “We are building a team for a completely new era of MotoGP, and we wanted to combine experience with young talent. Senna represents an exciting part of that future.” He added that Tech3 expects there will be plenty for Agius to learn, but said the team is ready to support him through the process. “We are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 and look forward to seeing him grow with us.”
With Agius confirmed, Tech3’s 2027 picture is shaped by other departures and gaps. Current Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini is switching to Trackhouse Aprilia for 2027, but there is no place on next year’s MotoGP grid for team-mate Maverick Vinales, who is currently sidelined by ongoing shoulder problems. Jack Miller, meanwhile, will also leave MotoGP but has a confirmed seat in WorldSBK next season.
