STEINER SAYS TECH3 MUST GIVE AGIUS THE RIGHT SUPPORT TO SHINE IN MOTOGP

15 Oct 2026·

Senna Agius will join Tech3 for his MotoGP debut in 2027, and team co-owner Guenther Steiner believes the Australian has the potential to become “something special” — provided he gets the right support and mindset for the step up.

Tech3 will field a new line-up as MotoGP enters its 850cc era. Luca Marini and Agius have each signed two-year deals with the KTM satellite team, replacing Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini. Viñales has no confirmed ride for 2027, while Bastianini is moving to Trackhouse. Marini is joining Tech3 after losing his factory Honda seat; Agius will be one of six rookies on the grid.

Steiner said Agius’s talent is clear, but stressed that equipment and preparation will matter as he moves up from Moto2. “With Senna, you see the potential,” he told Fox Sports Australia. “He’s young, but I think that if we can get him in the right frame of mind and give him the equipment, I think we could have something special.” Steiner added that Agius’s desire to succeed makes him particularly promising: “The chance to find something special with Senna is bigger than anybody else in my opinion, because the guy wants to do it and he’s there to do it.”

Agius is expected to work with Francesco Munzone, currently Adrian Huertas’s Moto2 crew chief, in what would be Munzone’s first MotoGP role. Steiner is also bringing in Eneko Hernando to work with Marini.

Marini, who will be Agius’s teammate, sees the 21-year-old’s ability to adapt quickly as an encouraging sign. Agius moved into Moto2 full-time in 2024, claimed his first podium at his home Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island that year, then earned his first victory at Silverstone in the 2025 British Grand Prix. He had also impressed in the Spanish championship.

“I don’t know him super well yet,” Marini told Fox Sports Australia, noting that MotoGP’s demands leave riders little opportunity to spend time with competitors in other classes. He has met Agius a few times at Valentino Rossi’s Ranch in Tavullia and follows his races. “Senna has been able to adapt quite quickly to Moto2 – that’s always a good sign, and he was very strong in the Spanish championship, too. He’s made quite a lot of progress in just a few years.”

Agius has visited the Ranch on several occasions. His manager, Chaz Davies, has said Rossi described the Australian as “super impressive” and said he had “some skills” after seeing him there for the first time in 2025.
