ALEX MARQUEZ SAYS MARC DOESN’T NEED HIS HELP IN THE 2026 TITLE FIGHT

Alex Marquez has moved to shut down any suggestion that he will play a supporting role in Marc Marquez’s bid to defend the MotoGP title in 2026.
Speaking to El Periodico ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix, the Gresini rider was asked directly whether Marc might benefit from help from his younger brother. Marquez’s response was blunt: “No, no, Marc doesn’t need my help.”
Alex also pointed to the time away over the summer break as a key reason he feels more prepared than he did earlier in the season. “These three weeks’ holiday have allowed me to do a second pre-season,” he said. He added that while he still needs to rebuild some strength, his condition has improved: “I’m feeling better and better, much better, although I still need to regain some strength, but I feel very strong.”
With that renewed fitness, Alex set out his immediate targets for the Silverstone weekend. “My aim, starting this weekend, is to be competitive again and to be on the podium whenever I can and, if possible, to win a Grand Prix.”
In the championship picture, Alex is not currently in contention for the title. The source places him 121 points behind leader Jorge Martin at the midway stage, describing him as a long way from his 2025 form when he finished second behind his elder brother. Marc, by contrast, is portrayed as firmly in the fight to retain the crown, sitting just 18 points behind Alex’s compatriot at the top of the standings despite missing two rounds earlier in the year due to injury.
Even though Alex is not chasing the championship, he acknowledged that his race-by-race ambitions will inevitably bring him into contact with riders who are. “Of course, when your aim is to fight for the podium, you’re bound to end up going head-to-head with any of those five contenders,” he said.
He then explained how he views the balance between racing for results and any potential knock-on effects for title rivals. “It may well be that one time you help one of them out and another time you get in another’s way, but my wish is to say goodbye to the Gresini family with the best possible results.”
At the British Grand Prix, Alex also has a specific motivation tied to his past results at Silverstone. The source notes that he has never won a Grand Prix there, with his only top-step finish at the circuit coming in last year’s Sprint race, when the shorter-format event delivered his sole victory at the venue.
