JORGE MARTIN LOSES SILVERSTONE WIN AFTER START PROBLEM IN TURN 1

Jorge Martin left Silverstone with a strong sense of momentum after a weekend that began with pole position and a Sprint win, but ended with the Grand Prix victory slipping away almost immediately. The Aprilia rider set the tone in qualifying by improving the lap record and taking P1, then backed it up by winning the Sprint as part of an Aprilia clean sweep, finishing ahead of Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi. That gave Martin the best possible platform for the 20-lap race on Sunday.

However, the decisive moment came at the very start. Martin later explained that his rear ride-height device was still activated into Turn 1. “I made a small mistake at the start. The device was activated, so all the riders overtook me,” he said in Parc fermé. He described how sparks flew from beneath the bike and how, after being pushed wide in Abbey, he was passed and effectively “run through.” While he managed to fight back, he believed the win was lost there. “I could come back, but I lost the win there,” Martin added.

Ogura also suffered from the same issue. The Japanese rider dropped as far as seventh and later crashed, underlining how quickly the problem affected the race rhythm for multiple riders.

Despite the early setback, Martin’s recovery was impressive. As Raul Fernandez moved clear at the front, Martin worked his way forward—first passing Marc Marquez, then getting past his teammate Bezzecchi. At one point, he was reportedly the only rider able to consistently ride in the 1:58 bracket, but the gap had already grown to more than four seconds. In the closing stages, Martin pushed again, reducing the leader’s pace by about half a second per lap, yet it was not enough to launch a final attack.

“I rode my pace at the end and hoped Raul would ease off. He rode impressively,” Martin said, while also praising Aprilia for a successful weekend in both the Sprint and Grand Prix, with podium finishes limited to riders on the RS-GP.

The result also reshaped the championship picture. Martin increased his lead to 31 points, moving from 17 up to 31 in the standings, with 240 points overall. Bezzecchi took over second place after finishing third despite a painful ride, while Ai Ogura slipped. The race win went to Raul Fernandez, extending his Silverstone streak—he became the 12th different winner in 12 MotoGP events at the circuit.
