Jorge Martin Takes a Break on Ibiza After Defending MotoGP Lead at Silverstone

15 Aug·

Jorge Martin used a near-flawless British Grand Prix to underline his position at the top of the MotoGP standings, and then took the chance to switch off before his home race in Aragon. At Silverstone, the Aprilia rider defended his championship lead with a weekend that included pole position, victory in the sprint, and second place in the Grand Prix. Speedweek notes that the RS-GP’s form translated into podium results for Aprilia on both occasions, with the podium featuring only Aprilia riders.

Martin scored 32 points at the British GP and now leads the championship after 12 race weekends with 240 points. His closest challenger is his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who sits 31 points behind in second place.

With nearly three weeks until the MotorLand Aragon event, Martin is using the break to relax away from the track. The report says he spent time with his girlfriend, Maria Monfort, including a trip to Ibiza. There, Martin was reportedly on a yacht and enjoyed downtime such as swimming, stand-up paddling, and good food.

Even while away, he still made time for notable moments: Martin watched the solar eclipse that occurred on Wednesday, which was particularly visible in parts of southwest Europe. Training also remained part of his routine during the week, with sessions on a road bike.

Looking ahead, the title fight is expected to intensify over the final stretch, with the next 10 race weekends bringing new challenges for Martin and Aprilia—especially as Aragon typically suits Ducati rider Marc Marquez.
