LIBERTY MEDIA CONFIRMS CARMELO EZPELETA AS MOTO GP CEO AND APPOINTS CARLOS EZPELETA DEPUTY CEO

Liberty Media has confirmed a management reshuffle at MotoGP, naming Carlos Ezpeleta as deputy CEO while reaffirming his father, Carmelo Ezpeleta, as CEO. The announcement is widely viewed as Liberty Media “doubling down” on confidence in the Ezpeleta family’s leadership within MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group (MotoGP SEG), the organisation formerly known as Dorna. The move places the Ezpeletas at the top of the MotoGP SEG structure, with Carlos taking the deputy role alongside Carmelo’s continued position as chief executive.

The change was officially announced on 25 August, with MotoGP SEG stating that the promotion recognises Carlos’s “significant contribution” to the sport’s continued development and strengthens the leadership team for the next phase. Until now, Carlos Ezpeleta had worked as MotoGP sport director, and the promotion brings him directly to the second position behind his father.

In the company statement, Carlos was credited with playing a key role in the series for more than a decade, including helping expand MotoGP’s international presence, strengthening strategic partnerships, improving the commercial offering and growing the global fanbase. The statement also highlighted his experience across both business and sporting sides of the championship, adding that his work has helped make MotoGP “safer, more competitive and more exciting than ever.”

Carlos Ezpeleta welcomed the appointment, saying: “It is a great honour to take on this role at such an exciting time for MotoGP.” He added that, with fans and partners around the world, he is looking forward to working with Liberty Media and the wider MotoGP community to reach new audiences, create new opportunities and “unlock the full potential of this sport.”

Liberty Media CEO Derek Chang said the sport has built a solid foundation worldwide and that there is “an enormous opportunity” to take MotoGP to the next level. He pointed to Carlos’s experience, long-term vision and deep understanding of MotoGP as the qualities needed to help shape that transition, and said Liberty Media is looking forward to supporting him in the new position.

Carmelo Ezpeleta also backed the decision, stating that Carlos has played a decisive role in MotoGP’s growth over many years. He said Carlos’s experience spans every area of the company and that his leadership, foresight and passion for the sport make him the right person to guide MotoGP into its next chapter.
