MARC MARQUEZ MUST WIN ARAGON BY AT LEAST FIVE SECONDS, SAYS MARCO MELANDRI

Marc Marquez’s return to Aragon is already being framed as a potential statement race after a tough outing at the British Grand Prix left him without the pace to reach even a top-five finish. With the Alcaniz circuit historically suiting Marquez, MotoGP pundit Marco Melandri believes the reigning world champion has to deliver a dominant performance this weekend—specifically by creating a gap of at least five seconds over the next-best Ducati.

Speaking on the Chiacchiere da Box podcast, Melandri was asked for his predictions ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix and pointed to Marquez’s exceptional record at the venue. Aragon has been a place where Marquez has stood on the top step eight times, with seven of those wins coming in the premier class, while no other rider has come close to that level of success. Melandri’s forecast reflected that history and the expectation that Marquez will arrive as the overwhelming favourite.

Melandri’s prediction was blunt: “Marquez wins, 5 seconds ahead of the second-best Ducati.” He added that the margin could be even more telling in the way it reshapes the field behind the leading bike: “I’m saying that on the second Ducati. He’s at least got to give the rider who finishes five seconds; they might come third, but it’s another Ducati.”

The former rider also referenced how similar thinking played out recently at the German Grand Prix, where his earlier expectation for Marquez’s dominance came true. In that race, Marquez controlled the weekend and finished more than 11 seconds clear of the next-best Ducati rider, Francesco Bagnaia.

Beyond the numbers, Melandri suggested Aragon could carry psychological weight for the title fight. In his view, the race is “a crucial race,” because it is where Marquez has often “made the difference.” He argued that Aragon is the kind of track that can test rivals’ mental resilience, saying it’s “where we’ll really see whether Marquez can deal a psychological blow to all the others, because it’s a track where he’s historically made the difference.”

Marquez’s season to date, according to the same analysis, has been about limiting damage at circuits that suit his opponents while going all-in on weekends where he can swing the momentum. The report notes he has already produced two perfect weekends this year, and a third would significantly reduce Jorge Martin’s lead at the top of the standings.
