MARTIN AND MARQUEZ TIED ON 274 POINTS AHEAD OF AUSTRIAN GP FRIDAY PRACTICE AT THE RED BULL RING

Heading into the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, the MotoGP title race is locked at the top, with Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez arriving on 274 points apiece. Marquez holds the advantage in the standings because he has won more races, taking the top spot for the first time in 2026.

Marquez’s recent form has been a major talking point, with the Spaniard described as the winner of the last four MotoGP races, including Sprint events. He also reflected on what has made this year’s championship fight particularly demanding, saying that his first-year battle with Jorge Lorenzo was the most pressure he had felt in the class.

For Martin, the joint-lead situation is still striking. After a slump from the front to fifth at Misano that he attributed to arm pump, he said it was “crazy” that he remains tied at the top with Marquez.

Behind them, Marco Bezzecchi sits third after a difficult Misano weekend. He crashed out of the lead on the first lap, and he admitted that the analysis of the turn 13 incident—where he went down on lap one—was “painful” after reviewing what happened with Aprilia.

The week following Misano has also been marked by controversy involving Francesco Bagnaia. The Ducati rider was caught on camera by DAZN speaking to Fabio Di Giannantonio after his Misano retirement, with Bagnaia explaining that Ducati was not allowing him to try different bike setups as he continues to struggle with the 2026 Desmosedici GP. Bagnaia later hit back at how the footage was published, calling the way it was released “disrespectful,” while Di Giannantonio defended the situation by saying the capture and release of the clip was “unfair.”

On the Red Bull Ring itself, Ducati’s recent record adds another layer to the weekend story. The report noted that Ducati has won the last four races at the venue, and that the only times it has been beaten there were by KTM—while KTM itself has not won since 2021.

With that backdrop, Pol Espargaro suggested the Austrian GP could be a strong opportunity for Pedro Acosta to take his first MotoGP win. Acosta, however, sounded more measured about his chances, describing a win as a dream scenario given his history with KTM that is set to end in a few months.
