QUARTARARO HIT WITH 16-SECOND PENALTY AFTER SILVERSTONE TECH INFRINGEMENT

Fabio Quartararo’s Silverstone MotoGP weekend ended with a technical sanction after the Frenchman was found to have breached MotoGP’s tyre-pressure data requirements. The Yamaha rider was originally classified 12th, but the FIM MotoGP Stewards imposed a 16-second post-race penalty, demoting him to 16th and last and leaving him with no points.

The Stewards’ explanation focused on the Tyre Air Pressure Sensors (TAPS) system. They stated that Quartararo’s tyre-pressure data “was not being transmitted correctly.” After the race, his motorcycle was sent to Technical Control for inspection. During that check, it was identified that the onboard receiver had not been correctly configured to receive tyre pressure information from the front tyre sensor.

According to the Stewards, the sensor ID had not been recorded in the receiver database, meaning no actual front tyre data was captured during the race. As a result, Quartararo was treated under the same penalty protocol used for riders who fail to meet the specified minimum tyre pressure.

The Stewards reiterated that TAPS are mandatory on all wheels in MotoGP, and that logging of TAPS data must be maintained at all times. They then confirmed that, following the “Penalty Protocol - MotoGP Tyre Pressure” issued to teams, the appropriate sanction in this case was a 16-second addition to the race result.

With the penalty applied, Quartararo left Silverstone without scoring.
