STEINER SAYS MARINI’S CALM APPROACH MAKES HIM A FIT FOR TECH3
24 Sept 2026·

Luca Marini’s measured temperament and MotoGP experience helped persuade Tech3 CEO Guenther Steiner to bring him to the team for 2027. The Italian will join rookie Senna Agius in a new line-up as MotoGP enters its 850cc era with Pirelli tyres.
Marini’s move will take him to a third manufacturer. He spent three seasons with Ducati before joining Honda, where he is now approaching the final seven rounds of his factory stint. He is currently the leading Honda rider in the championship, in 11th place.
Steiner said he had met Marini several times, including a 45-minute conversation at the Formula 1 race in Monza. Those discussions reinforced his view that Marini could help establish the working culture he wants at Tech3. “He has got a lot of experience here, and he is a very thoughtful person,” Steiner said. “He is not emotional, he is thinking things through.”
The team boss wants to make progress through careful decisions rather than reacting in haste. “Not being slow, but giving ourselves time to make the right decision,” he explained, adding that some riders can be anxious and that sometimes it is necessary to “slow down to hurry up”. He believes Marini’s calm approach can contribute to that methodical process.
Steiner also stressed the value of different personalities within a team. “Everyone has their own character. In a team, you need a mix to get the best,” he said, comparing the right combination of people to good ingredients in a soup.
Marini’s arrival follows Enea Bastianini’s decision to move from Tech3 to Trackhouse Aprilia. Maverick Viñales, Bastianini’s current team-mate, has been left without a MotoGP seat and has yet to announce his plans for 2027.
