YAMAHA HIT WITH 16-SECOND PENALTY AFTER QUARTARARO’S RACE RESULT IS REVISED

Yamaha’s weekend on the British island turned into a nightmare for the factory team, ending with zero points from the race itself. After earlier sessions were disrupted by trouble in the sprint, Alex Rins crashed out early in the Grand Prix. Fabio Quartararo fought on despite the chaos, managing to stay attached to the rear of Franky Morbidelli’s VR46 Ducati and crossing the line 26 seconds behind the winner in 12th place.

For Quartararo, the result was at least a small improvement after his previous visit to the event, when he had been leading but failed to finish. However, that brief sense of relief lasted only a couple of hours. MotoGP’s technical commission then issued a penalty to Yamaha with rider number 20.

According to the official statement, the bike was taken after the race for technical inspection. The investigation found that the onboard receiver was not correctly configured to capture front tyre pressure data. Specifically, the sensor ID was not stored in the receiver’s database, meaning the front tyre pressure information was not recorded during the race.

The penalty was therefore not for the usual issue of running too little tyre pressure, but for missing tyre-pressure data transmission. Yamaha received a 16-second time penalty, and the revised classification dropped Quartararo from 12th to 16th.

In the updated standings, Quartararo sits behind Miller, Espargaro, Razgatlioglu and Fernandez, with test rider Augusto Fernandez taking the final championship point. Quartararo remained physically unhurt, but the technical decision left him 14th in the championship—just one point ahead of Honda rookie Diogo Moreira.
