ACOSTA CREW CHIEF TREvATHAN SAYS KTM WIN FELT LIKE “HELL AND BACK”

After the official KTM schedule around the Red Bull Ring, the Spielberg paddock turned into a celebration zone for the “orange family,” with Pedro Acosta’s MotoGP debut victory at the center of the festivities. The mood extended well beyond the day’s formalities, and Acosta’s crew chief Paul Trevathan made it clear how much the win meant to him and the whole team.

Trevathan described the triumph as a peak emotional experience, saying: “This win was the ultimate experience! Also to know how much Pedro deserves it. It means the world to all of us – the company was on a trip to hell and back!” He framed the result as both a reward for Acosta’s work and a validation of the team’s journey through difficult moments.

The road to Sunday’s success wasn’t smooth. Trevathan pointed to the challenges that came with Acosta arriving at the team during a period when development wasn’t progressing as hoped: “Pedro came to us in an unfortunate phase – we couldn’t develop as we wanted in that phase.” Despite that, he stressed how extraordinary the victory felt once it arrived: “The win now is incredible!”

Trevathan also addressed the sprint crash from Saturday, explaining that the team had to talk through Acosta’s reaction. “To the hours after the crash in the sprint on Saturday,” Trevathan said, “Pedro was fast, that was clear to see. He was overconfident. We had to talk about it; he was really angry at himself. He was angry for an hour – the first thing he said was that it was his mistake.”

Sunday’s start brought more setbacks as well, with a crash in the warm-up. Trevathan noted that it didn’t help initially, but the team managed to recover: “The crash in the warm-up didn’t help either. We could fix it, though, and he then implemented everything. I’m really impressed!”

Beyond the race weekend’s ups and downs, Trevathan spoke about Acosta’s personality and approach. He said Acosta always wants to prove himself when he gets on the bike, adding: “What’s beautiful about Pedro is: what you see is what you get.” Trevathan also highlighted Acosta’s learning speed and trust within the team: “He learns a lot. Sometimes he was a bit crazy, but we found a way for him to be himself – he has to be happy. His focus was full from day one. His ability to learn is incredible – you tell him something once and he can put it into practice. He trusts everyone in the team – everyone deserves it so much!”
