ALEX MARQUEZ SAYS JORGE MARTIN’S CONSISTENCY IS WHY HE LEADS THE MOTOGP STANDINGS

Jorge Martin’s championship advantage was cut to 19 points after the Aragon Grand Prix, where he finished fifth in both races. Marc Marquez, meanwhile, delivered a “perfect 37-point weekend” to move up to second in the standings. The Aprilia of Martin was also outpaced by his teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who took pole position and then finished third in both races.

Speaking after Sunday’s race, Alex Marquez argued that Martin’s position at the top is built on reliability rather than headline results. “Right now, everyone is a favourite, and Jorge is the leader,” Alex said, adding: “So he’s the one who has to set the pace.” He noted that Martin may not have been in a position to fight for victory at Aragon from the start, having ended Friday practice in seventh—more than half a second off the pace—yet still managed to limit the damage.

Alex pointed to Martin’s season pattern as the key differentiator: while Martin has won only one Grand Prix this year, Marc Marquez and Bezzecchi have each won four. The elder Marquez brother highlighted that Martin has still finished inside the top five in 19 of 26 races. “That’s where he’s accumulating points, and that’s why he has this lead in the championship,” Alex said. “It’s very tight, and each weekend, whoever is more consistent and has fewer sevenths, eighths… is the one who will come out on top.”

He also referenced recent form swings around the chasing group. Marc Marquez has won four of the last six races, but he struggled to seventh at Assen and Silverstone during that stretch. Bezzecchi, meanwhile, is still working to recover from a difficult run before the summer break, when he scored just six points across four weekends—an interval that included a marshal incident leading to a race ban, a crash that ended his race, and an injury absence.
