YAMAHA CONFIRMS XAVI VIERGE EXIT AT END OF WORLDSBK SEASON, MAKING ROOM FOR JACK MILLER

Yamaha has confirmed it will end its association with Xavi Vierge at the conclusion of the 2026 WorldSBK season, a move that is expected to clear the way for Jack Miller’s arrival in 2027.

Vierge, who previously finished on the Moto2 podium before switching to WorldSBK, joined the series with Honda in 2022. He then moved to the Pata Maxus Yamaha team at the start of this year. With Yamaha now preparing its 2027 line-up, the Spaniard’s exit will create a vacancy alongside Andrea Locatelli.

In the current standings, Vierge sits 13th in the championship, directly behind Locatelli, who is Yamaha’s leading rider. Yamaha’s decision therefore reshapes the team’s future plans, with Miller—currently competing in MotoGP—set to make the switch to WorldSBK.

Yamaha’s Road Racing Sporting Manager for the Motorsport Division, Niccolò Canepa, praised Vierge’s conduct and commitment throughout the season. “Xavi has shown incredible professionalism and determination throughout 2026, and we’re very grateful for everything he has brought to the project and for all his hard work this season,” Canepa said. He added that while the year had been difficult, Vierge remained a valued presence in the team. “It’s no secret that we have had a challenging year, but Xavi has always been a great person to have in the project and a real pleasure to work with. We are sad to see him go but would like to thank him for his commitment and wish him the very best for the future.”

Team principal Paul Denning also expressed regret that the partnership could not continue into 2027. “For me personally, and I know without doubt that I can speak for every single person within the team, it is with huge regret that we are unable to continue with Xavi into the 2027 season,” Denning said. He highlighted Vierge’s speed and how quickly he adapted to the Yamaha R1. “His quick adaptation to the R1 plus his raw speed, bravery and technical clarity mean that we will miss a superb rider but also a very special person.”

Denning further underlined Vierge’s reputation in the paddock and within the team. “It’s rare that somebody is so well liked and so deeply respected by everyone he comes into contact with, but Xavi has an exceptional level of professionalism, honesty and respect towards his work and the people around him.”

Yamaha closed its statement with a direct message to Vierge: “Vamos Xavi, and thank you,” while assuring him that “the team’s door will always be open for any future opportunities.”
