JORGE MARTIN DOWNPLAYS TITLE-LEAD PRIORITY AHEAD OF MISANO

Jorge Martin has played down the importance of holding the MotoGP points lead heading into this weekend’s Misano GP, insisting that the championship situation is too tight for any single position to become a “priority” or a “determining factor.”

Entering Sunday at Misano, Martin remains at the top of the standings despite having taken only one race win so far this season. He holds a 19-point advantage over Ducati champion Marc Marquez and a 24-point gap over Aprilia team-mate Marco Bezzecchi, who—along with Marquez—has four grand prix victories to his name. The Spanish rider’s consistency has kept him in front since Assen, but the margin is fragile: the report notes that if Martin were to repeat the 21 points he lost to Marquez at Aragon, his championship lead would be at risk.

Speaking ahead of Misano, Martin framed the weekend as a special occasion rather than a moment to chase a specific numerical outcome. “The Misano GP is always special when you are on an Italian team and, along with Aprilia and the fans, I’m sure it will be a great weekend,” he said. He added that Misano is a track he likes after what he described as a good job in Aragón, and he pointed to “clear objectives” for the race.

While Martin acknowledged that leading the standings matters to Aprilia as a whole, he stressed that the close gaps in the championship mean the team cannot afford to focus on the table instead of the work. “Leading the standings is important for the entire Aprilia team, but we’ve already seen that, given the close gaps, it is neither a priority nor a determining factor,” he said. Martin concluded by emphasizing process over position: “We need to keep focusing on our work. I can’t wait to get on the RS-GP26 and do my best at Aprilia’s home race.”

Bezzecchi, meanwhile, is preparing for Misano with the motivation of a home-race atmosphere and a chance to build on recent momentum. The report highlights that he is aiming to complete an Italian double after his emotional Mugello victory in May. It also recalls his Misano form from last year, when he finished second to Marquez after a “thrilling duel.”

“I’m extremely happy to be going to Misano,” Bezzecchi said. He added that it will be “fantastic to finally see all our fans again,” while also warning that it will be “undoubtedly a demanding weekend.” Like Martin, he looked forward to getting back on his machine: “I can’t wait to get back on the track on my RS-GP26.”

The championship picture underscores why Misano is crucial for Aprilia’s riders. Fabio di Giannantonio sits fourth, 48 points behind Martin, and the report notes that a maximum of 37 points is available on each MotoGP weekend—meaning the race and sprint outcomes can still reshape the fight at the front.
