MARC MARQUEZ PRAISES ADELAIDE CIRCUIT SAFETY AFTER WATCHING VIRTUAL LAP

Marc Marquez has offered his first reaction to MotoGP’s new Adelaide circuit after watching a virtual lap of the layout. The track configuration was confirmed last weekend, with Adelaide set to debut as the new Australian Grand Prix venue just over a year from now. The announcement has been controversial for fans as it effectively ends Phillip Island’s place on the calendar, a circuit Marquez has previously called “one of the best” tracks.

MotoGP released a video on its social channels showing several riders reacting to the track, and Marquez focused on the circuit’s setting and safety provisions. “It’s amazing to see a bike between the trees, but with enough run-off area,” he said. He added that the run-off is essential: “Without the run-off area, we cannot ride. MotoGP did an incredible job.” Marquez also highlighted the visual impact of the back straight, pointing out the city backdrop: “Here in the back straight, you can see the skyline of Adelaide, up and down. Not bad.”

Asked about the prospect of racing in an urban environment, Marquez’s teammate Francesco Bagnaia said the challenge will be new for everyone. “It will be new for everybody. I hope that everything will be ready, like in this video, because it looks fantastic. I think we can enjoy it.”

Pramac rider Toprak Razgatlioglu echoed the excitement, saying: “I think everyone will enjoy this track. It’s very fun.”

While Marquez is impressed by Adelaide, he also questioned whether Phillip Island can offer sufficient safety through its “very fast” corners. MotoGP group deputy chief Carlos Ezpeleta, speaking last weekend, said there are “many problems” with Phillip Island despite the fact it produces “exciting” racing.

Beyond Adelaide, the 2027 calendar is still to be confirmed, but the headline changes already include Argentina’s return—this time in Buenos Aires rather than Termas de Rio Hondo.
