MOTOGP 2027 PRE-SEASON TEST DATES CONFIRMED FOR 850CC ERA

5d ago·

MotoGP’s 2027 season will usher in a new technical era, with engine capacity reduced from 1000cc to 850cc, the elimination of any ride-height adjustment “devices,” and reduced aerodynamics. The championship will also switch tyre supplier from Michelin to Pirelli.

With the 2026 campaign still underway, the schedule for the 2027 pre-season testing has already been set. The first shakedown run—covering test riders and rookies—takes place on 29–30 January at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Immediately after, the official Sepang test for all riders is scheduled for 31 January and 1 February.

The programme then moves quickly to Thailand. On 6–7 February, the paddock will hold the second pre-season test in Buriram. Speedweek notes that the short turnaround between the two tests will add pressure for both riders and teams, especially given that the 2027 season opener is staged on the other side of the world in Rio de Janeiro, with the event set for 21 February.

After the opener, the calendar returns to Asia for the first 2027 race weekend: 5–7 March in Buriram, where the Thai Grand Prix will feature the first competitive action for the new 850cc prototypes.

Finally, riders are expected to begin work with the new 850 bikes during the Valencia test on 1 December this year, when they will also appear in their new team colours.
